This is MoYu's new YS3 M. It's a collaboration between MoYu and YuSheng Du, who currently holds the world record 3x3 single at 3.47 seconds.

The official name of the cube is the MoYu HuaMeng YS3 M, "HuaMeng" being the new flagship sub-brand of MoYu.

Features

The YS3 M comes in three versions: Standard, MagLev, and Ball-Core. Unless mentioned otherwise, all of the features in this section apply to all three versions of the cube.

The YS3 M comes with MoYu's classic dual adjustment system with 9 spring compression settings.

Like many other MoYu cubes, the YS3 M has a frosted plastic exterior, but there's supposed to be a UV coated version in the future.

The cube weighs 76 grams, 80 grams, and 83 grams for the Standard, MagLev, and Ball-Core versions respectively. The Ball-Core version features exclusive light blue internals and 25 degree auto-alignment technology, both of which are pretty cool.

The YS3 M is 55 millimeters across, which is slightly smaller than the standard 55.5 - 56 millimeters seen in most other cubes.

At the time of writing, the Standard version is $15, the MagLev version is $20, and the Ball-Core version is $26, all of which are $5-6 more than their respective versions of the Super RS3 M.

Accessories

The MoYu YS3 M comes with a transparent clam-shell case, a small screwdriver, and a spring compression adjustment tool. It also includes a spare spring compression ring in case one gets lost.

Versions

The Standard version provides a stable feel that can handle more aggressive turning. The MagLev version is much faster due to its MagLev technology and has quick turning. The Ball-Core is also fast, but it has much better auto-alignment because of its corner-core magnets.

YS3 M v.s. RS3 M

The MoYu YS3 M is extremely similar to the RS3 M 2020 - the plastic colors are the same and the piece design is very similar. However, the YS3 M has an internal dragon scale texture to distribute lube, whereas the RS3 M 2020 is completely flat. The YS3 M also has a larger anti-pop piece than the RS3 M 2020, making the corners less likely to pop past the edge.

The RS3 M 2020 is 86 grams, which is heavier than the 76-gram Standard YS3 M. It's also 56 millimeters across, which is slightly bigger.

There are also noticeable turning feel differences out of the box.

"The corner cutting of the YS3 M is definitely more snappy... the RS3 M is a bit more clunky and doled out, whereas the YS3 M just has that snap to it."

Cameron Brown

Additionally, the MoYu YS3 M is faster and less scratchy than the RS3 M out of the box.

Performance

"Pretty much what happened here is that MoYu took the Super RS3 template and just said, 'Hey YuSheng, use this" - and slapped it onto an RS3 M 2020, made a few changes to the pieces, shrunk it a little bit, and that's what this is in my opinion."

Cameron Brown

As far as performance goes, the MoYu Super RS3 M is a lot smoother and easier to turn than the MoYu YS3 M. It has a glidey turning feel with a hollower piece design, which makes it feel more airy than the YS3 M.

Cameron's and Jaden's Thoughts

"I have a feeling that I will have missed some detail about this and people are going to say, 'Oh no, that's completely different than the RS3 M 2020, you're crazy Cameron' and maybe that'll be the case. But I did spend a fair bit of time looking this over, and I also showed some of our other staff... but overall it's a pretty similar design. And, I don't know, it feels a little hard to treat this as a new release like a new cube because it's pretty much a Super RS3 M and an RS3 M 2020 combined and shrunk."

Cameron Brown

"I would say the MagLev is probably my least favorite of all the three versions. It just feels the most similar to the standard and it doesn't really feel like it has that much of a place. If it were just deleted, and we had the Standard and the Ball-Core, I think that would be plenty."

Cameron Brown

"I do like the standard the most, out of all of them. I do like the speed, because I personally think it's a lot easier to slow down your cubes than to speed them up, because the more lube you put in, eventually it will just start to slow down."

Jaden (Custom Cubes Team)

Conclusion

Overall, the MoYu YS3 M seems to be a combination of the extremely popular RS3 M 2020 and the newer MoYu Super RS3 M. Performance-wise, the YS3 M is equal or marginally better than RS3 Ms. The main difference between the YS3 M and its predecessors is arguably its slightly smaller size, which may appeal to cubers who prefer smaller cubes.
