DianSheng Galaxy 12x12 Magnetic is the industry's first factory-magnetized 12x12!
Key featuresVery smooth and good
Love the black internals and colorful magnets. Turns amazingly for such a high-order cube. Corner cutting on outer layers is amazing.
This cube has a few problems, so I can't give it a perfect score:
Out of the box the turning is unacceptable, so I lubed every intersection of the diagonal of every face with Lunar and it became usable. This is still definitely no speed cube, though.
It's physically quite large and heavy which takes some getting used to. Especially in the middle layers some of the commutator algorithms I could easily do on smaller cubes I struggled to duplicate on this beast, so I had to build some new muscle memory.
I experienced frequent lockups, especially on my first couple solves. Fortunately, I was able to massage the jammed pieces back into place without any pops. I also had layers constantly trying to stick together, which, left unnoticed easily derailed my solves. During my 3rd solve I adapted by constantly looking for layers that had stuck together (and I was also getting better at selecting a single layer). I was also spending a bit more time aligning the cube before changing directions in order to avoid the lockups.
I recommend solving this cube low over a desk or sitting on the floor or such so that if it's dropped that it doesn't fall far and shatter. I also recommend not trying to solve it in a single session. My first solves I just did a little at a time. I marathoned my 4th (1h 38m) and my wrists hurt afterward. It's just too heavy and the layers don't turn easily enough to solve all at once. I'd lube it again, but I used up almost all my Lunar just lubing it the first time. In the future I'll just solve it in 15-30 minute sessions. I was hoping to use this for travel/flights, but due to the size/weight/soreness I'll probably stick with my 8x8.
Still, I'm quite satisfied and have been having a great time with it. I recommend it, especially on sale. Buy extra lube!
Very smooth turning and fun to solve. Patterns on it look really mesmerising. It work surprisingly well as a 7x7 too, as the outer layers are basically twice as large as the inner layers.
Would get if you’re looking for a 12x12
The internals and inner layers are amazing, the cube of you turn properly, never pops, and everything turns really well. Done long solves in 1 sitting and my hands do not get tired.
